Part II – How to comply

QUES – How to comply with the Code in the initial stages of architectural design or the placement of mechanical equipment?

ANS – We use published lab tested reports for details or assemblies similar to what we are specifying for simple issues like floors, walls or ceiling components. This is also useful for mechanical equipment such as outdoor heat pumps, fans & the like. To be extra sure, we use dedicated acoustic specialists that use an array of analysis to conclude that we will be compliant when installed or built. Some larger multiple dwellings require this in advance of approval for such work.

QUES – How to create an acoustically compliant space?

ANS – Most spaces have floors, walls, wall openings, ceilings and sometimes even ceiling openings to address. Some spaces have all, some or none of the components addressed. For instance a rooftop restaurant or outdoor movie theater – these are special cases outside our normal work, which is multiple dwellings and mixed use commercial/residential structures. These are our most common projects and issues the Code concerns itself with, specifically floor specifications.
